Schedule and Service Changes

Service Changes Effective August 27, 2023

In August 2023, Metro plans to roll out the following recommended service improvements:

As part of improvements recommended by the Transit Together study:

  • Extension of the Husky Line to the Eastern Waterfront via Congress, Franklin, Commercial, and Thames streets
  • Improved Route 9 off-peak and Saturday service frequency from 30 minutes to 60 minutes
  • Add two weekday round trips to BREEZ route, with schedule tweaks to achieve a more uniform schedule throughout the weekday
  • Route 1 service will no longer service Atlantic Avenue
    • The route will instead turn directly from Eastern Promenade to Congress Street, with a new stop at Congress/Emerson.

Additional changes to service include:

  • Reduction of some Route 3 service to Riverton; some trips will turn around at Westbrook Community Center
    • This change was necessary to help improve on-time performance on routes 3 and 5
    • We expect to revert back to the regular schedule in May 2024
  • Restoration of pre-detour service on Route 4 in Downtown Westbrook
    • Route 4 stops will be restored to Mechanic Street.
    • Route 3 and Husky Line detours will continue until street construction is completed, expected Fall 2023.
  • Select reduction of Route 4 service to the Westbrook Hannaford on Saturdays
  • Elimination of Route 5 service to Hutchins Drive on Saturdays
    • These changes were necessary to help improve on-time performance on Route 4 and 5 on Saturdays
