Minor service changes to Route 21 and BREEZ; Metro Connect Falmouth service ending Sunday Service effective February 8, 2026

As part of Metro’s continuous efforts to improve transit service and operate a fiscally sound service for our member municipalities, the following service changes will be made, effective Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Route 21 will undergo minor service changes to improve on-time performance. Route 21’s on-time performance has been among the poorest of Metro’s routes since Metro began operating this route in December 2024. Service changes were made in June 2025 to address on-time performance issues. Additional changes will come into effect on February 8th. Passengers riding from Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) to downtown Portland should experience shorter travel times, as buses will no longer hold time for long periods at the Mill Creek Transit Hub. Buses will lay over at SMCC as needed.

BREEZ service will have minor changes to improve on-time performance. BREEZ service, being Metro’s lengthiest route, is particularly susceptible to weather conditions, roadway construction, and other factors affecting the overall speed of travel. The schedule will be adjusted to more accurately reflect the travel time required to make each trip.

Metro Connect Falmouth service has been operational for over a year. Metro has operated this service seven days per week since launch, albeit with a shorter service span on Sundays. Over the course of 2025, it became clear that use of Metro Connect was markedly lower on Sundays compared to other days of the week, even after accounting for the shorter span of service. In order to save costs, Sunday service on Metro Connect Falmouth was eliminated as part of Metro’s 2026 budget. This change will take effect on February 8, 2026.
