Beginning on Monday, October 20 and extending through Friday, October 31, utility work will close the Back Cove Trail on Tukey’s Bridge between East Deering and the peninsula to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. To aid those who use this connection for commuting, Metro will offer free bus rides at the three bus stops closest to the bridge closure:
- Washington Avenue at Galvin Street (Route 9A)
- Washington Avenue at Eastern Prom (Route 9B)
- Veranda Street at Sherwood Street (Route 7)
Route 7 provides transportation between Falmouth and Portland, extending to Portland Jetport via Congress Street. Route 9 provides circulates around Portland via Congress Street, Washington Avenue, Auburn Street, Allen Avenue, and Stevens Avenue; Route 9A circulates in a clockwise direction, while Route 9B circulates in a counterclockwise position. Route and schedule information can be found at www.gpmetro.com/schedules.
All buses are equipped with bicycle racks that can accommodate most standard bicycles. E-Bikes and wide-tired bikes may not safely fit in the bike racks. If you are unsure if your bike will fit in the bus-mounted bicycle racks, Portland Gear Hub, located at 155 Washington Street, has a demo rack you can try before you try to board a bus.
