How to Pay your Fare

Pay your fare using our DiriGo Pass smartcard or smartphone app (preferred) or pay exact change in cash.
Soon you will be able to pay your fare by tapping your credit/debit card or smartphone wallet — no cash or app needed!

Special notes for those paying cash – If you prefer to pay cash, you can! Drop the exact fare into the fare box and proceed to find a seat. Drivers cannot make change. If you need to transfer between services, you’ll need to pay another fare. Passengers paying with cash are not entitled to free transfers or fare capping benefits.

Portland Public High School student ride FREE with DiriGo Student Pass | Maine Health employees ride free with an employee ID

Reduced Fares

No matter how you pay, you may be eligible for reduced fare.

Metro offers reduced fare for seniors 65+; red, white, & blue Medicare card holders; persons with disabilities; SSI, SSDI, & VA benefit recipients; veterans; and youth (age 6-18).
