Metro and Bath Iron Works Pilot Extension Concluding October 2

Greater Portland Metro and Bath Iron Works (BIW) will conclude their pilot program extending select Metro BREEZ trips to BIW following service on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Schedule Changes & Impact

  • Discontinued Trips: Northbound trips beginning at 5:06 AM and 1:55 PM from Thompson’s Point to BIW, and the southbound trip departing BIW at 3:40 PM, will no longer operate after October 2.
  • Adjusted Departure: The southbound trip departing BIW at 6:20 AM will no longer depart from BIW, and will instead originate at Brunswick Train Station at 6:45 AM.
  • All other Metro BREEZ trips remain unchanged.

Background & Funding Context

The service extension to BIW, which included 1.5 additional round trips on the BREEZ as well as the extension of service to Bath, was funded in full by BIW via workforce transportation grants. While the program generated a small amount of steady ridership among BIW employees, ridership overall is not high enough to warrant continuation of the route extension.

Future Transit Partnerships

Greater Portland Metro hopes to re-engage with the City of Bath, BIW, and other local partners to explore future transit opportunities to serve Bath, with more trips and broader stopping options along the route extension in Brunswick and Bath.
