GREATER PORTLAND METRO LAUNCHES MICRO TRANSIT SERVICE IN SCARBOROUGH

On-demand “microtransit” service set to launch in late September 2026 in Scarborough, connecting residents to fixed route transit and locations not served by the fixed route.

SCARBOROUGH, ME — Greater Portland Metro is set to launch an on-demand “microtransit” service in Scarborough similar to their Metro Connect on-demand service that has been operating in Falmouth for over a year now.

This new microtransit service aims to connect Scarborough residents to existing fixed transit routes, as well as destinations outside GP Metro’s current fixed route network. Microtransit is launching ahead of the new Route 25, which starts October 4th. The route will serve destinations along Route 1 in Scarborough from Portland via the Veteran’s Bridge  via Main Street in South Portland. Destinations include the VA Clinic on Commercial St., the MaineHealth medical campus and the Exit 42 Park-n-Ride for commuters’ easy access.

Riders will be able to travel within the Scarborough microtransit zone for the cost of a bus ride ($2.25 base fare / $1.10 reduced fare). Fares can easily be paid using a DiriGo Pass smartcard, mobile Umo app, Tap-To-Ride with a credit/debit card, or cash (exact fare). Rides can be booked via the Metro Connect Greater Portland app, by visiting gpmetro.org/connectapp, or by calling Metro Customer Service (207.744.0351). Walk-ins are welcome but subject to space availability; all Metro Connect trips must start and end within the service area.
